Mother River Ganga Documentary :
Ganga Dussehra day | May 30th, 2023- Tuesday | Ganga Dussehra day is celebrated to mark the day when Ganga started descending to Earth to accomplish her mission to purge the cursed souls of Bhageeratha's ancestors. | Tamil | English |
Dear Devotees, ||Om Namo Narayanaya|| Sri Guruvayurappa Sharanam!! May 30th, 2023- Tuesday- is auspicious Ganga Dussehra Day. Ganga Dussehra is also known as Gangavataran which means the descent of the Ganga. On this day, Sri Ganga Devi is celebrated. This is the day when Ganga started descending to Earth to accomplish her mission to purge the cursed souls of Bhagiratha's ancestors. She is sacred and comes as Vishnupadam - from casual ocean washing the Holy lotus feet of Lord Sri MahaVishnu when HE took Sri Vamana Avatharam. When HE took the vishwarupram, HIS left foot big toe or thumb toe touched the ceiling of the andam (universe) and cracked the wall and the Kaarana jalam (casual ocean - very very pure water outside universe or andam surrounding the universe) started dripping through the crack and Lord Brahma collected it before coming to the Earth, the Goddess Ganga was residing in Kamandal of Lord Brahma. That scared water descended to Earth to purge the sins of cursed souls of Bhagiratha's ancestors on the request and tapas or austerity of King Bhagheeratha. When She wanted to descend the power of river was so great that Lord Shiva asked mother Ganga to fall in HIS hair matt as she descended on earth, and then let loose a lock of HIS hair and let Ganga flow through this streak of hair down to the earth. After coming to earth Bhageeratha directed Her and with Her water His ancestors got salvation. She flows in three lokhas(worlds) with name River Mandhakini in Swargam or heaven, She flows with name River Bhagheerathi or River Ganga on Earth or Bhu mandala, in India and She flows with name Bhogavathi in lower worlds or Netherlands or in pathala lokha, and thus purifying all three lokhas(worlds). On Ganga Dusserha day, She is celebrated and prayed to by taking holy dip in river Ganga in Prayagraj/Allahabad, Garhmukteshwar, Haridwar, Rishikesh and Varanasi and all the cities river Ganga is flowing. On Ganga Dussehra day thousands of devotees do Ganga Snan or holy dip in River Ganga and participate in Ganga Aarti at Dasaswamedh Ghat.
